The best known prop for Maori dance are the poi balls, which are attached to long cords and swung in cirles around the poi dancers. A Kapa haka is a group gathered to practise and perform the songs and dances of the Maori people of New Zealand. Samoa Dance
The story about life in Samoa is told through clapping and slapping in Sa Sa dances.
Where does polynesian dance originate from?
Polynesia is a large grouping of over 1,000 islands scattered over the central and southern Pacific Ocean. Polynesia may be described as a triangle with its corners at Hawaii, New Zealand and Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Inside are the islands Samoa and Tonga, the Cook Islands and French Polynesia.
Lessons are offered in Hawaiian, Tahitian, Maori, Samoan, and other Polynesian island dance, with the main focus of teaching in Hawaiian and Tahitian. Both kahiko (ancient) and 'auana (modern) styles of dance are taught. I believe that you cannot present the dance respectfully if you don't understand what it is that you dance.
The object of the workshops is to introduce basic hula and tahitian steps. We will also explain class formats, uniforms and class supplies.
Myriam Caballero Valenzuela Began dancing at 4 years old. My dance training includes Hawaiian, Tahitian, Belly Dance and Jazz. My passion, however, is Hawaiian and Tahitian. My inspiration is my childhood teacher Luz Maria Alfonso. God is my strenght.
